How appropriate that our readings this weekend before Independence day speak to us about Freedom.

Saint Paul reminds us how we are supposed to use our God given freedom - by actually loving one another.  I read a quote this past week - ‘I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least…. I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.’     That’s Jesus’ command, to love one another.  If we don’t, then we don’t really love Jesus.

Instead far too often we do what Paul warns us about - cause he knows our human nature well.  Paul says, and I love the line, ‘the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, love your neighbor as yourself, But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.’

My brothers and sisters, For freedom Christ has set us free.  So rather than biting and devouring one another in slavery to sin - how about we follow Jesus, how about we live by the Spirit, and actually serve one another through love - with all that that demands of us.  Especially the person or groups of persons that we love the least. God help us all. +
